Meet the Board

Tanya Gracie

Tanya Gracie

Tanya Gracie became a member of the Credit Union and a Director in 2010. She is a strong advocate and champion for co-operatives. Through her role at Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (and Canadian Co-operatives Association), she works with co-operatives and credit unions throughout Canada with the ultimate aim of bettering Canadian society.

She is presently the Chair of the Board of Directors and also serves on the Executive Committee.

Tanya is an active member in the Ottawa and co-operative sector, serving on a number of boards and committees in the area. Her objectives are to promote organizational excellence, to steward good governance and to encourage and contribute to innovation.

Tanya believes that credit unions make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke became a member of the Credit Union in 1998, and soon after joined the Credit Union’s Board of Directors. His solid background in management and finance has been a great asset to the discussions at the Board table.

Michael has served as the Board Treasurer for years, and currently sits on the Audit Committee.

Michael has recently retired from the Ottawa‐Carleton District School Board as Superintendent of Facilities, previously Chief Financial Officer. He has served on the boards of many provincial organizations including the Council of School Business Officials, the Ontario School Boards' Insurance Exchange, and the Ontario Association of School Business Officials. He has also been a member of the Public School Board's finance advisory panel and served on expert panels for the Ministry of Education and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Michael's outside interests include gardening, and he has won numerous awards from his local horticultural society.

Michael believes that strong co-operative credit unions and caisses populaires are vital to Canadian financial sector because of how they respond to the needs of the ordinary consumer.

Don Fairweather

Don Fairweather

Don Fairweather’s membership with the Credit Union began more than 30 years ago. He joined the Board of Directors in 2013. He brings a wealth of outside experience to the table: he has managed multi-million dollar budgets and is an expert in risk management.

Don has recently retired from a lifelong career in academia.  His most recent position was the Dean of the Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College. His career also included serving as Executive Superintendent of the Upper Canada District School Board.

Don is currently the Vice President of the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry/ Akwesasne Children's Treatment Centre and a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG. Don also serves on the Aultsville Theatre Board, the St. Lawrence River Institute Board and is an avid member of the Cornwall Golf and Country Club.

Don believes that providing healthy support to children and youth is a cornerstone of community building.

Like many others, Don applauds the investment that Your Credit Union has made in its community through the revitalization of the Cornwall YCU branch and support for worthy institutions such as the Cornwall Hospice, the Cornwall Community Hospital and St. Lawrence College.

Kelly Storie

Kelly Storie

Kelly Storie has been involved in the co-operative sector since she was 12 years old and has been a credit union member for 35 years. Kelly joined Your Credit Union’s Board of Directors in 2013. She brings a fresh perspective and strong co-operative values to the Board table.

Kelly is the Board Treasurer and is a member of the Audit Committee.

Kelly obtained a degree in Finance and Administration and is a worker-owner of La Siembra Co-operative, where as Finance Manager, she recognizes the value and need for balancing sound financial metrics with principled social objectives. Since 2010, she has sat on La Siembra's Board of Directors and now serves as its Board President.

Kelly believes in the power of co-operation to improve the economic and social well-being of the community, and is actively involved in a number of co-operative development committees where she strives to nurture and strengthen member-owned enterprise models.

Céline Carrière

Céline not only became a member of the Credit Union, she became an employee for a little while in 2006/2007, proudly serving our members in our Centrepointe branch. Céline joined the Board of Directors in 2013. She graduated from the University of Ottawa with a B.A in English Literature and Communications. She also completed the Co-operative Management Certificate through York University in 2012.

Céline has served on the Executive and Nominating Committees of the Board.

She works as the Executive Director of the Co-operative Housing Association of Eastern Ontario (CHASEO), a local federation that provides housing co-operatives with training, advocacy and value-added services. She is currently Vice-President of Rooftops Canada, and a director at large of the Ontario Co-operative Association. Céline represents housing co-operatives on a number of City of Ottawa working groups, and has a positive working relationship with the Agency for Co-operative Housing. Céline was one of the founding board members of McLean Housing Co-operative and Coopérative d'habitation Jeanneville.

Céline is a passionate and active member of the co-operative sector, particularly in the co-operative housing movement.

Sonja Carrière

Sonja Carrière

Sonja Carrière has been a member of the Credit Union since 2011 and became a Director in February 2012. Her wealth of experience with the co-operative business model began when she was sponsored by the Credit Union as an adolescent to attend the Co-operative Young Leaders (CYL) Program.

Upon completing the CYL Program, Sonja became a volunteer facilitator with the program, the Youth Program Co-ordinator, and finally the Education Manager at the Ontario Co-operative Association. Prior to stepping into her role as Education Manager, she was able to merge her passion for youth, co-ops, and numbers as the Youth Savings Intern with the Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Association.

Sonja is currently a high school teacher and department head with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Sonja worked as a Technical Co-operant for the Canadian Co-operative Association assisting with the assembly of a microfinance toolkit for use in CCA’s work internationally. She also served on the boards of the Guelph Campus Co-op and the Waterloo branch of Children’s International Summer Villages as Risk Manager.

Sonja is grateful for having attended the CYL program and is proud to be able to give back to Your Credit Union.

Rob Vye

Rob Vye

Rob Vye has been a member of the Credit Union for over 35 years and has been involved with its many changes over the years. As an operator with OC Transpo, he was a member of the OC Transpo Credit Union when it merged with Municipal. He was President of Municipal Credit Union when it merged with Ottawa Education Credit Union to form Ottawa Carleton Credit Union.

He has been a Director at the Credit Union since 1993. He has served on many of the Board’s Committees over the years, and was Chair when the Credit Union adopted the name Your Credit Union. Rob currently sits on the Audit Committee and Executive Committee.

Rob is a strong advocate of credit unions and co-operatives, where the set of owners and the set of customers are one and the same.

Michael Galvin

Michael Galvin

Michael has been a Credit Union member since 2007, and joined the Board of Directors in 2013. Michael is co-owner of Computer Sense (Cornwall) and trusts the Credit Union for his personal and business-related banking.

Michael's experience in running a small business has provided keen insight into the challenges facing credit unions, as both segments face shrinking margins coupled with an increased demand for customer service.

Michael serves as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors.

A strong believer in community spirit and improvement, Michael is actively involved in the Cornwall community, including a Campaign Chair of the United Way Centraide, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, a member of the Social Planning Council; a two year term as President of the Kinsmen Club of Cornwall; and currently sitting as the Treasurer on the Board of Victim Services of SDG & A.

A champion of the Credit Union philosophy, he actively promotes doing business with credit unions amongst his fellow entrepreneurs and colleagues.

Brian Keen

Brian Keen

Brian Keen has been a member of the Credit Union since 2007. His association with credit unions began much earlier, in 1981, as the engagement audit partner of a number of credit unions in Cornwall. Brian has seen the benefits of membership personally and with numerous business and individuals that he has had the opportunity to refer to the credit union.

Brian is a past chair and treasurer of Laurencrest Youth Services Inc. and is currently treasurer of the Laurencrest Youth Services charitable foundation. He is also a past treasurer and charter member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Cornwall. Brian has assisted a number of smaller charities, specifically those with minimum funding, with financial planning, accounting assistance and government compliance.

Brian is currently semi-retired after a thirty-five year career as a partner in the public accounting profession.

Brian recognizes the significant support the credit union has provided to the community. He also appreciates the viable financing and investment options Your Credit Union provides to individuals and businesses. He continues to promote YCU as an excellent choice to serve the financial needs of both personal and commercial customers.
