Why You Should Never Share a Verification Code

Verification codes may seem routine—but they’re one of the most important tools protecting your accounts.

What Is a Verification Code?

A verification code can be sent to your phone or email when you:

  • Log in to your online banking account
  • Reset a password, or change personal information associated with your account
  • Make a transaction

It confirms that you are the person accessing the account.

Why It Matters

This code is like a second lock on your account.
If someone gets it, they can get in, even if your password is secure.

How Scams Work

Fraudsters can:

  • Trigger a real code to be sent to you
  • Contact you pretending to be YCU or another trusted institution
  • Ask you to “confirm your identity” by sharing the code

If you share it, you’re giving them access.

What Could Happen

Sharing a code can allow someone to:

  • Access your accounts
  • Move money or make purchases
  • Reset your passwords

Simple Rule to Stay Safe

Only use a code when you initiated the request.

If you didn’t:

  • Don’t share it
  • Don’t respond to anyone asking for it

One Final Reminder

YCU will never ask for your verification code.
Treat any request for one as a red flag.

Protecting your information starts with small steps—keeping your verification code private is one of the most important.
