RRSP

Prepare for your future with confidence.

A Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) will help you retire comfortably. Any investment growth is tax exempt, as long as it remains in the registered plan. Your allowable RRSP contribution for the 2021 tax-year is the lower of 18% of your earned income from the previous year, or $27,830. For the 2022 taxation year, the RRSP contribution dollar limit is $29,210 and for the 2023 taxation year, the RRSP contribution dollar limit is $30,780.

Good for:

  • Socking away money for retirement

  • Paying for a portion of your first home

  • Furthering your education

Enjoy the Benefits of an RRSP

  • Lower your tax – Regular contributions to your RRSP will reduce your taxable income – especially helpful during your higher income years.

  • Grow your money – Because your RRSP is tax-deferred, your earnings will be tax sheltered.

  • Contribute until you are 71 – Make annual contributions until December 31st of the year you turn 71.

  • Use a portion of it for your first home without penalty – Speak to a member of our team to learn more.

  • Use it to fund part of your education – If you want to continue your education, borrow a portion of the funds without penalty. Speak to a member of our team to learn more.

  • Multiple investment products are available within an RRSP account – term deposits, mutual funds*, stocks*, and bonds* included.

Planning to Retire, Actually Requires a Plan

The first thing to think about when planning for retirement is what kind of lifestyle you want to enjoy. Some people want to stay close to family, others want to move to a warm destination. Increasingly, many Canadians do not want to retire completely if they can continue to work to some degree. How you want to live and how you can afford to live must be reconciled, but we always start with a discussion of your ideal scenario and then see if we can help you make it happen.

As a member-owner of Your Credit Union, you know that we exist to meet your needs, not make money from you. We have all the financial vehicles one might want for a retirement plan, but we are focused on what will work best for you. Our goal is to be your life-long financial partner and that includes helping you to create a plan for your retirement that is uniquely suited to your needs and desires.
